Artist's Note
Red and white quilts have a nostalgic quality - blanketing atrocities perpetrated by imperialism and nationalism. We cannot heal these wounds without acknowledging our complicity within the colonial identity. This was hand-stitched with wool and linen yards after Canadian Reconciliation work began using ground-penetrating radar to locate children buried on residential school sites. I contemplated this as I quilted through these layers in the summer of 2021.
